hello! a lot of people have been asking about how i start my study sessions and what my study routine is like, so here’s a general post on study sessions :)

before study session:

start in a clean and well-lit space. it’s hard to concentrate when your work space is dirty and messy and full of stuff to fiddle around with. i also personally love to study by a window because of the natural light coming through.

make sure that you have a bottle of water nearby (stay hydrated!) and a little study snack if you’re hungry. i have a post on study snacks that you can take a look at if you want!

log off your social media accounts and turn do-not-disturb on. if you get easily distracted, then turn off your phone / laptop / tablet completely (ofc if you don’t need to use it). you don’t want any distractions to get in the way of your studying :(

if you’re the type of person who listens to music while studying, pick a playlist and turn it on. i wouldn’t really recommend youtube because of the distracting ads and potential for procrastination. i personally like to use 8tracks, but i know that some people like to use spotify as well. i’d recommend listening to instrumental / soothing / classical music without any words for distractions. you can listen to all of the study mixes that i’ve made here :)

make sure that you have all of your materials. textbooks? notebooks? paper? pens / pencils? calculator? have them ready to use so that you don’t have to get up and get them once you start your study session.

time to start studying!

during study session:

set tasks / goals for your study session. what do you want to accomplish with the time that you have? focus on that. i like to use my bullet journal to quickly jot down the tasks that i need to do.

if you really really don’t want to start or feel like procrastinating, try working 10 minutes longer. after the 10 minutes is up, see if you’re worn out or really tired. if so, then take a break. if not, keep on going! you’ve just found a good work-flow, and it’s important to keep that up.

breaks:

studying too long without taking a break can actually be detrimental. you’ll only get tired and you won’t be able to process the information as clearly anymore. however, be careful not to take overly long breaks!

i like to use the timer app on my ipod to time my breaks and make sure that i’m not taking up too much time. i usually set mine to about 5 to 10 minutes depending on how i feel, and once the time is up, i go back to work.

during this time, it’s nice to take a deep breath, drink some water, and to relax a bit. go to the bathroom during this time and take a breath of fresh air. some people like to check their ig or tumblr, but make sure to get back to work once the time is up!

my personal routine:

a lot of you guys have been asking about my personal study routine, so i decided to include it in this post as well hehe. my average day after school without any meetings or events look somewhat like this:

  • go home and relax for a bit
  • study session + break + study session
  • dinner + shower
  • study session
  • wind-down time + sleep

hope this helped and good luck! if you’d like to request a post, go here and if you’d like to see more helpful posts, go here!! thanks :)
